Well-being afternoon in KS2!
This afternoon Joe from T.A.M.H.I worked firstly with the P7 children, playing games, which help them to deal with emotions and feelings.
He then tasked the P7’s with leading the games with the P5/6 children. P7 had to organise and explain what they had just done to the younger children.
All children thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and ‘had so much fun!’
A big thank you to Gary from Glens United for organising the session and to Joe for coming and delivering such a worthwhile workshop!! We look forward to incorporating more of these games into our school day!
P6/7 took part in a mental health play workshop today with Joe from Tamhi Tackling Awareness of Mental Health Issues. They learnt four different games that allowed the kids to look at their emotions, friendships, problems and solutions. They were taught how to deliver the lessons to a class and then had the opportunity to do this with P4/5.
Joe said he was amazed by the group today and he thought they did brilliantly.
Four children in particular showed great leadership skills - JACK, JOSIAH, IAN and ELLIE! Well done!
Really enjoyed this workshop tonight.
I delivered a workshop for Rathcoole FC back in February and was asked could I do a similar workshop for the local band.
100% why not, a band is a team just like football.
I adjusted the workshop slightly to make it more community focused and used "The Boat" exercise to talk through how we all are in the same boat when it comes to things that cause:
Calm waters
Chopy watersb
Storms
The importance of Guidance and Support from things like faith, family, positive role models (Lighthouse) can get you through hard times
Support Floats represent the mental health services that are there IF we need them.
Anchor is the most important thing that gives us stability and structure and purpose. Family tends to be the main thing.
We had so much honesty in the room with inspirational stories of challenging times and better places thanks to support.
Almost unanimously we agreed the most important thing when it comes to mental health is connection. If we all look out for each other we have better chance of getting through things.
1st rate engagement, contribution and inspirational stories
It was something slightly different outside typical sports delivery, and it was really enjoyable. #feasacht meabhairshláinte
April is Stress Awareness Month, and this year's theme is 'Little By Little, A Little Becomes A Lot'. This is the idea that small consistent actions each day contribute to overall well-being as a cumulative effect.
Here are some useful resources from stress.org.uk and some provided by Tamhi Tackling Awareness of Mental Health Issues
Absolutely phenomenal Stand by Me Ball in Balmoral tonight in aid of TAMHI.
