November 2024- Dunloy Stronger Together

I’ve just had one of the best EVER experiences.

I shared the stage with Oisin McConville (Armagh GAA Legend) and Keith Gillispe (United Legend) who I’ve played with once before at Dunloy Stronger Together to mark International Mens Day.

I got randomly asked to talk at a community hall meeting a few weeks back and said, sure why not. I was expecting 40 to 50 people and rocked up to 250 🤯

While the two legends shared their stories of sport, addiction and recovery, I shared my story of loss and also hope.

Honestly felt a bit of imposter syndrome at the start, but thanks to the amazing hosts and the warm welcome I answered my questions with passion and care, as what was apparent, celebrity or no celebrity, we are all humans and we all face the same challenges in life.

The message I left was, that we all go through difficult times and if we are struggling, ask for help early or if we notice something is not quite right, ask a friend or family member if they are ok. If the response is “I’m fine” let them know “look if you ever need to talk, I’m there and I care” as that lets them know they have someone open and ready to help (thus removing the sense of nobody cares).

It was lovely to sit and eat with Keith and Oisin and the Dunloy Stronger Together organisation, and hear about the work they deliver and how the group has been established to bring the community together and tackle issues that adversely affect people.

It was my 1st time in the beautiful village of Dunloy and I’m hoping with the connections now in place it won’t be my last.

Thank you for such a special night, one that will live in my memory and heart forever
